The N.C. Daily News of Dec. 16 gives the following account of the fire reported in our special telegrams:
Exactly to what extent life was lost in the big fire which occurred yester day morning in Chapei, when a cotton mill was burned down and a flour mill seriously endangered, is not a present ascertaicable, and, indeed may never be, but it la commonly reported that a large number of people were killed, the estimates varying from 15 to 50.
