A BRILLIANT EXPLOIT.

TARILLING STORY OF PRIVATION AND CALLANTRY.

The first price case to come before the new President, the Right. Hon. Sir H. E. Duke, In the Prize Court, bad reference to an application by the Crown to condemn the Turkish tug "Hertha" and cargo, and in con- pection therewith a thrilling story was told of the plucky achievement of a party cf officers after their escape from a Turkish prison camp at Yozgad saya the Journal of Com

VOTES.

Mr. O'Conner, who appeared for the Crown, said that the exploit was one of the most brilliant that had ever been related in that court. Com. mander Archibald Cochrane, R.N., on the night of August 78, 1918, with other officers carried off plans that had been maturing for eleven months previously, and escaped from the camp at Yozgad, and after a series of adventures, involving marching on scent rations, battles with brigands, privations of hunger and cold, and narrowly escaping cutthroats on at least two occasions, they succeeded in arriving at a point on the. Anato- lian Coost west of Korgos Island.

On arriving there the party were too famished to proceed with the venture of securing liberty, but after a rest of about seven days they resumed their travels.

On September 8 Commander Cochrane saw a Turkish tug off the Isle of Korgos, dragging with a berge full of Government stores, and it anchored 60 yards from the shore. The party daringly resolved to attempt to climb down to the beach, and swim off, some 300 yards, to release from the tag -the dinghy An attempt had previously teen made to do this, but owing to the noise made by the lifting of the anchor a Turkish sentry had been alarmed.

On this occasion, however, the ex ploit was successfully carried cut.. After dark the officers made off and cut adrift the dinghy which was astern of the barge, and the rest of

sentry ashore or from the place the party were paddled alongside the "Hertha without being seen by the where the crew of the "Hertha" were lying, about 30 yards away.

These men, in ar emaciated condi tion after the privations of a thirty. days' desere march, got the anchor up, and succeeded,, with the aid of hastily-improvised paddles, in row. ing the boat out to sea under the nose of the sentries notwithstanding that the Turkish crew were thirty yards from the tug at the time, of the capture.

When they were a mile or two out at sea they started the" Hertha's "54- horse-power engine, an operation taking four or five hours, and finally the tug was brought to Cyprus Harbour and handed over to the British authorities.

The president observed that there' was no question in that court of the recognition of these gallant fellows; that was a matter that would be dealt with elsewhere.

Ar affidavit by Commander Cech. rane telling the story of the adven- ture as outlined by counsel was put t-in.

The President asked how it was they contrived to navigate her to

The commander said he knew the general direction of Cyprus. They had a compass. The high mountains of Cyprus, were visible 40 miles away.

WHAT NURSES CARRY TO WAR.

I well remember the first party of nurses we took out," raid tho thlet stewardess of ons of the steamers which acted sa transports between England and the Cape daring the South African war of nineteen years go. The ship. seemed just a great hospital, only there. were no patients. Of course it was caw experience to us at the time and we were interested in all that went on, but the fact which struck me most, and has uever gone out of my mind since, was that every one of the nurses, with acarcely an exception, had brought & supply of Dr. Williams' Pink Pills on board for her own personal use whilst in Africa."

It is because they know that woman's greatest need when afficted with tha aches and ills peculiar to her sex is fally met by Dr. Williams' Pinic Pille, the World's most famous blood and nerve tonic that hospital nurses aED and recoramend these Fills wherever occasion arises. Women's silmata-their dis tresaing backaches, headaches, annemia, attacks of nerves," and those periodi cal derangements of health which cause so much depression and pain, can only be successfully overo me through the blood, and it is because Dr. Willame Pink Pills rapidly make now, rich, red blood, at the a me time building up the nervous systero, that their reputation and polarity among women of all classes in all parts of the World is s great.

Dr. Williams Pink Pulls for Pale. Poople are obtainable from aedicine. veedors Overywhere, and the Dr. Williams' Medicine Co., 06 Ezechnen Road, Shanghal, 1 bottle 81.50, bottles 88-, post freo,. They are equally good for men.
