Rev. Archibald Forder, an English. missionary, who suffered bitter per secution at the hands of the Turks. in Palestine for four years during the war, has just returned from the Holy Land..

He has many frightful tales to tell of Turkish misrule in Palestine, of the horrors of prison life in Jerusalem and Damascus, and of the cruelties: of officials, who were even callous enough to confiscate the money allow-

·ed for the (burial of British soldiers, and to cast the bodies of these brave men to the dogs.:

Mr. Forder was received, at Buck- Ingham place by the King, who, on bearing of the terrible ordeals to which he had been subjected, was moved to indignation.

THE KING'S SYMPATHY. "The King received me very kindly." said Mr. Forder to the Daily Chronicle representative, "and: when I was telling my story be constantly broke in with exclamaticos expressiing his disgust at the treatment I had experienced.

"I told him how my wife and children were, separated from me, and how my wife subsequently died owing to the bad treatment she received from the Turks while I was in prison.

He asked me if I was going out again to resume my work in Pales- tine. I said I was, and he remarked.

"I showed the King a Damascus newspaper, printed in Arabic and containing an article about himself.. I had a translation with me, which the King read.

His Majesty laughed heartily at the Imaginative story given of him. self, running into a cellar in Edg. ware-road to escape from Zeppelin -bombs and calling to the Queen to help him out of his trouble. He said he did not think he was so popular with the Turks as to be written about in their newspapers.

"I also told the King that the Germans had been instrumental in atirring up the Turks against me. He said:-

Oh, the Germans are finished now. See what has happened to the Kaiser. He has had to run away from his own people and his own country and seek refuge in a neutral country. He is well punished for what he did."

Mr. Forder bears visible traces of his hardships and captivity in Palestine. Five years ago he was a strong and athletic man, but although it is over a year since he was rescued, when the Australians entered Damascus, he is now but a shadow of his former self, and his right arm and side have been rendered almost useless owing to the damp state of the cells in which he was confined.
