Sir-I have Been called "rada " by the writer of the "Adversaris,"" and impolita by Fung, Wun-u. Il to criticize others in language rather outspoken is rudeness, then I really do not know what politeneu ́is.. Probably it means calling a Dither butterfly, a buffalo or a monkey. I would not have replied to Fung Wunu's letter, which contains insulting allusions not at all connected with the argument in question-Savery-were it not that he questions my translution of Pi Chip. He says that the first character does not qualify the Becond. It is does not, then accord ing to the rules of the Chinese grammar, the second character would come first, for it is inconceivable shut the Chinese would consider their *slaves"-P-es superior to the combines Chip. I wonder Fung Won- knows that Pi Chip is simply the equivalent of Sa Chip-coubine-attendant? Prob ably he will tell me that the char- acter wh--to wait upon-here. alse. does not qualify the second charne- ter? A little more" study of the 19 classics will lead you to think other. wise, Hung Win-i-Yours truly,

JOHN KESTREL.

The question is: Need those who do that work be so rough and dirty a to induce z'habit of mind which regards them of no account? There Hes the rub, and no tinkere ing with the superstructure of society can alter it.

In political thinking It is usually for

gotten, even by men like Cobden and Bright, and it needs a Las salle, a Marx, a Cobbett'to bring It home. Humanity is one, and an Injury to one member is an injury to the whole.

"The machinery which feedy and clothes the many, is in the hards of a few, who, carried by the im- petus of ancient traditfin, see the advantage of all in their own. The unthinking revolt of the many dis-: quiets, but does not erlighen them. who think it right to do what they have the power to do. "This introduces the vital question:
