LONDON, November 8. The report of the Old Age Pensions committee was presented to the House of Commons yesterday. Eleven out of its 18 aiembers recommend a pension of 10s. weekly, and the abolition of the means limit, which is tantamount to pensioning everybody. It is estimated that universal pensions at (the 18s. rate will cost £41,000,000,

WASHINGTON, November 9, The order prohibiting the coaling of foreign ships has been modified, enabling foreign ships to take sufficient cost to carry them to the next bunkering station.

ST. LOUIS, November 8. Mr. Brewster the chairman of the coal operators' scale committee, declares positively that Lenin and Trotsky are furnishing funds to carry on the American strikes. He adds that the United States knows just whence the funds are coming and is able to trace them.

CAIRO MEASURES SUCCESSFUL.

CAIRO, November 9. The official prohibition of demonstrations, also a strong display of police, had a remarkably quietening effect. At Alexandria a few hundred noisy demonstrators were speedily dispersed, after a few arrests and akirmishes with the police, but there was nothing like an organised move meat. The appeal for volunteers for the railways is meeting with the most gratifying response. Hundreds are registering daily. The sight of long queues of volunteers seems to have chastened the would-be strikers. The proposed general strike appears to be postponed indefinitely.
