PARIS, October 7.
A decree has been signed by the King of Italy, ratifying the peace treaties with Germany and Austria. Thus two of the principal Allies have signed the treaty. It is saticipated the French ratification will be made this week, making the third signature, whereafter the Wreaty of Versailles conses into force.
BOLSHEVIST WAR.
STOCKHOLM, October 7. Reports from Reval show that Rodzianko's offensive against the Bolsheviks promises satisfactorily. The raliway line between Pakoff and Petrograd is cut, forcing the Bolsheviks to a difficult retirement along the roads.
HUNGARY.
RUMANIANS WITHDRAW, AND BRITISH ITALIAN TROOPS ENTER.
BERLIN, October 7. Vienna, reports that the withdrawal of Rumanian troops has begun. Hungarian troops have replaced the Rumaniarms at Rab Vestspem and Stuhlweissgburg. 1,800 British troops have arrived at Budapest, and 2,000 Italians are expected. Both are destined for policing work after the departure of the Rumaniang.

MARTIAL LAW PROCLAIMED.
CHICAGO, October 7. Following a parade, of 2,000 striking steelworkers at Gary, Indiana, martial law was declared there and in east Chicago, Indiana. 1,000 federal troops are stationed at Gary owing to the inability of the state militia to handle the situation.

HOME OFFICE PERMIT TO LAND NEEDED.
No former: enemy alien may land In the United Kingdom, except by permission of the Home Secretary and no other alien may land except with the leave of an immigration officer, says an Order in Council dealing with allens restriction, published in the London Gazette, and coming into force on September 1. The Home Secretary is given large powers to vary the order as deers fit in the public interest.

Leave 10 land, will not be given unless the alien is in a position to support himself or is coming to a jab and croduces a permit in writing for his engagement issued to the employer by the Minister of Labour. He must not be mentally deficient. and must not have been previously deported: from this country,
An alien must register in the district in which he lives, and must produce to the registration officer a pasaport with photograph, issued not more than five years previously, or some other documents establish- ing satisfactorily his nationality and identity. He must also supply full details concerning himself. If absent for two months from his place of residence he must give his new address to the registration officer of the district in which he is then living. and also report every further change of address. If he is in lodgings the head of the household must report to the registration officer.
A register of aliens above 16 years. of age must be kept in all hotels and. lodging and boarding houses where such are received, and this must give the dates of arrival and departure. and the addresses from which they came and the places for which they leave. The chief of police in each district shall be the registration officer, and he also must keep a re gister of the aliens in his district.

PARIS, October 7, Without consulting the railwaymen's federation, the Paris state rail waymen have asked all the other railwaymen of France to take an urgent decision with regard to a proposal to demand a new hundred per centrise of wages plus the present bonuses, with a minimum wage of 800 francs monthly.

Clubs, restaurants, and places of amusement may be closed with the authority of the Home Secretary, by the chief of the police if he thinks they are frequented by criminal or disloyal aliens or are conducted in a disorderly manner. The police will also have power to enter by force if necessary, and search such premises. "Foreign members of the diplomatic service, with their households and staffs, are exempted from the order, unless the Home Secretary decides otherwise; as are also aliens who are receiving full pay as members of the Navy, Army, or Air Force, and their wives or children under 21.
The ports at which aliens may only land are:
London, Cardiff, Tyne Ports, Dover, Liverpool, Hull, Folkestone, Glasgow, Grimsby, Newhaven, Lefthand Granta, Harwich, Southampton, Moville, Ply- mouth, Grangemouth. Queenstown and Bristol.
And the air stations: Lympne (Kent), Felixstowe, and Hounslow.

PARIS, October 7. - In pouce conference circled in Paris it was stated yesterday. that despite American opposition, the French, British, and Belgian lists of officers whom Germany is to be called upon to deliver to the Allies under the responsibilities clause of the Treaty of Versailles are prac tically completed. These liste will be combined and handed to the. Eupreme war council within a month. France's list will call for more than a hundred German military chiefs and subordinates who will be charged with having broken the laws of war on French territory,
It is expected in conference circles that Japan will ratify the Treaty of Versailles about October 15 and Japan will thus be the fourth great Power ratifying.
