LONDON, September: 21. The British Mission to the Iman of Yemen has been captured by the Sheikh's Bajil and despoiled; but unharmed. Their release is probable. There is no further news of the fighting in Hodeida bur reinforcements, must have arrived and should have made everything secure.

PROSPECTS PROMISING.

LONDON, Seputeber 20. The Board of Trade Journal' says that from an investors point of view prospects for railway development in China are promising. Even pro- posals, which of themselves are not attractive, will be in a much stronger position when they form part of a comprehensive railway system; and it may be expected that 50,000, or even 100.000, miles of railway will be built in China in the next quarter of a century linking up all the principal ports.

The India Office denies that requisitions for berths in steamers have not been filled. The stories of wasted berths are said to have originated during the recent muddle, when twenty requisitioned berths were unoccupied. The India Office is not responsible therefor.
