COMBINE.

The Japanese rubber industry has made great strides since the outbreak of war. It is expected that orders. for rubber goods will flow in from Europe, and, indeed, the exports of rubber tyres during the present year has been

development of the industry is looked for in the share of a combination of large and small rubber factories. The desirability of this scheme seems now to have been accelerated by the receipt of large orders. from Siberia. The Okura firm is said to have recently received from the new Siberian Gov ernment orders for about Y400.600 worth of rubber tube and 1200,000 worth of rubber sheet. The com pany has now given these orders to the Mitado, the Toyo, the Nippon -and the Me Rubber Companies. which are regarded as the best rubber works in Japan. apart from foreign enterprises established there, the Okura-gumi guaranteeing payment. In this connection, it is said that these have decided to fill the Russian orders in co-operation with another so as to avoid unnecessary competition or so as to be able to compete with Dunlop Rubber Com- pany, Kobe: the Japanese accounts. do not scem to be very clear which. Their co-operation is szid to extend as far as exchange of stocks and of; orders for the purpose of securing efficiency and economy,

This co-operation is said to portend amalgamation at an early date, so as to put the rubber industry in Japan on a firm foundation. They are also expected to extend their combination to other factories after this first step.
