PATRIOTIC SLACKERS.
Colonel Wedgwood, who came out to Siberia about a year ago to study the situation and formed a very bad opinion of Kolchak and the group round him, is one of the members of Parliament who served through the war but who strongly opposes British soldiers being sent to Russia o retained there. Comman- der Kenworthy, who, like Colonel Wedgwood, fought through the war, holds similar opinions, and his op- position to the policy of continu ing the war in Russia was, in his opinion, responsible very largely for his triumphant return at Central | Hull Colonel Wedgwood told the House of Commons recently, much to the indignation of some of its 'patriotic members, that he obser ved how eager many of those who had never seen the front. were that British soldiers should be re- tained in occupation of Germany or carrying on a desultory warfare against the Bolsheviks. This is a very widespread phenomenon. Not very long ago a correspondent wrote to us protesting against our criticism of the immense British army that is was proposed to keep in being, despite the fact that the service of the men was for the duration of the war, declaring that it was necessary!
