HEAD DOWN IN LIFT.
RESCUE AFTER CUTTING OFF LEGS.
Two dostois recently operated or a fun while he was hanging, Head downwards, in the well of a lift at Messrs. Frederick Smith and -Co.'s engineering works at Salford.
The man. Henry Shiers, aged 66, by some accident at present unex- plained, was caught by the lift on the top storey of the works. His legs were jammed between the list cage and, the flooring, and his body hung down the well with the lift above him. It was impossible to move the lift ce to extricate the man.
In response to a telephone message so the Salford Royal Hospital, Dr. J. Ghosh, resident surgical officer, and Dr. W. Rekon, house surgeon, drove to the works, a staging was built out into the well of the lib from the floor below, where Shiers hung, and from this a platform was erected. By this means Dr. Reikan climbed to Shiers, gave him an aarsthetic and supported him while Dr. Ghosh, operating from the the door above, After the amputated both legs. operation Dr. Beikan lowered hiera to the floor below.
