CUNARD STEAM SHIP COMPANY, LIMITED,
INCREASING. THE SHARE CAPITAL
An important circular has been issued by the Cunard Company over the signature of Sir Alfred Booth,
chairman
After careful consideration, the directors have come to the conclu- sion that it would be desirable in the interests of the shareholders to make the issued capital of the company correspond more closely than it does at present with the value, on aj conservative basis, of the net assets employed in the business. In order to achieve this object; they propose capitalise the reserve fund to the extent of issuing to the shareholders one new fully-paid or dinary share for each ordinary share now beld. The effect of this will be
to:
that the total number of ordinary
shares Issued will be doubled, but, as, the total value of the net assets em- ployed in the business will be unal- tered, each share will be worth half as much as an ordinary share on the present basis of capitalisation. I the proposals be adopted, then what- ever amount the directors may at any time consider it prudent to dis- tribute as dividend or bonus will re- present, on the new capitalisation,' ■ percentage of half what it would
ber, 1918, and of declaring Dividends, TO LET A FLAT in Nathan Road, have been on the old.. etc.
The TRANSFER BOOKS of the Society will be CLOSED from the 12th May to 32nd May, both days inclusive. By Order of the Board,

The notice of the meeting sets; out the resolutions which the direc tors propose to submit to the share- holders for the purpose of carrying out this arrangement,
The annual meeting of the com- pany must, as provided by the articles, be held during the month of April, but owing to the depletion of staff and the complication of accounts
under Government control, the audited statement of accounts will
not be ready until later in the year. The directors are, however, satisfied that the profits of the company for the year 1916 will justify a dividend at the rate of 20 per cent. less income tax, on the ordinary shares as at present issued. If therefore the re serve fund is capitalised as provided
the resolutions set, out in the enclosed notice, and the ordinary share capital on which dividend will be payable is thereby doubled, the directors propose to recommend to th annual meeting, which will be heid on April 30th, the payment of a dividend of 10 per cent. less income tax, on the total ordinary share capital as so increased. The annual meeting will be then adjourned to a later date, when the audited accounts and the report of the directors for 1918 will be submitted.
