At no distant date the tendency will be for each of these countries to seek to open up tresh markets by developing hitherto more or less néglected areas. Japan has designs in this direction in China, where it hopes to find those extensive · natural resources necessary to keep its industries Supplied with raw materials. Sensational assertions concerning the excess of women over men in the British Isles were made by Dr. CW:Salesby at a meeting of the Royal Institute of Public Health.. Dr. Salechy said: "There will short---" ly be three million more women than men in the British Isles, which :-- is outrageous, unprecedented, infern ally unhealthy, and a grave obstacle: to monogamy. The nation is declin- ing numerically and in quality. We talk of increased production, but we are not producing the producers. It all hinges on the solution of the social problem of motherhood, and I hope to see in the Ministry of Health a department for mothers-and-child- ren. It must be one department, and the words should be connected by hyphens.
DESERTER'S SIMPLE LIFE,
Private Edward Wood, and Irish Guardsman who appeared before a court martial at Warley on February¦ 15, and was found guilty, has beer away from barracks since September... and was posted as a deserter.
