JOHN BULL"-AND THE STRAITS GOVERNMENT.

Under the beading of "Sensitive Bench," John Bull has the following. comment on the recent action of the Straits Government in seeking to stifle the liberty of the Press in Singapore.

The competition for the Royal Mrs Nettleton. Eventually, under Artillery Cup for the present season the taunts of Mr. Johns, he agreed is concluded. The 83rd Company and to his surprise, won the hand are the winners and they take the with a pair of sixes. A few days 1ater, Nov. 24, Bog's birthday, Mr. Nettleton became rather generous and presented him with a parcel which when opened revealed a feather duster. From another parcel he took out a frame containing a pair of sixes and placing this on the table, ordered Boggs to dust it three times a day. Boggs lost his temper then, and called Mr. Nettleton some ugly names while that gentleman fished out his note book and fined him $100. Boggs became unruly then and broke the frame at the cost of another $100. In fact, he did everything he thought was worth $100 with the result that Mr. Nettleton was making morey at a pretty brisk pace. "To crown Boggs' misery, Mr. Nettleton invited Miss Florence Cole (Boggs' zii) to dinner. Lawyer Vanderholt was also present at the -the party and appeared to be enjoy. This is enough to ing the fun. show the nature of fare provided. The caterers did their work well.

To-night "Mary's Ankle" will be presented. -
