ORDINARY
How is this industrial miracle to be worked? By erecting superstations for the production of electric power by means of super-dynamos, driven by, super-gas-engines. These super stations will be erected in the coal. felds; the coal will go direct from the pits' month into gas retorts. The retorts will extract from the coal aniline dyes. motor spirit, heavy lubricating oil, sulphate of ammonia, and many other valuable hy products, and lastly gas. "The gas will go on to drive the super-gas-engines, and so be transformed into electric
power.
From the power stations the power: will be carried by high-tension, mains to the various railways, towns, and factories in the area. All the rail- ways will be electrified. Lighting. heating and cooking will be done entirely by electricity. The trans port of coal by rail and road will be a thing of the past.
Lighting a coal fire to foul the air with its smoke will be an indictable offence. The air of our towns will be as pure as the air of the country. soct will only be found in museums, where it will be preserved with fiat arrow-heads, and other relics of the barbarous ages..
Qu towns will undergo a transformation. The city clerk will be able to wear a white linen collar for a whole week; he will be free to indulge his taste, in dress; if he so a sky-blue pleases, he may wear coat, a scarlet waistcoat, and white trousers, without fear of soiling them.
The supply of cheap power will mean bigher wages and shorter bours for the workers. The wages THE GREEN ISLAND CEMENT

THE
NOTICE.
But we shall not get cheap power without a fight. There are all sorts of corporations, municipalities, and private individuals who have vested interests in the existing system. There are over 600 electric under- takings alone which will be affected. They are doing work which shoulă be done by 16. Then there are all the gas companies, and coal mer- chants, and steam engine drivers, who must find other work to do.
It is no use disguising the facts: it will be a stiff fight. We shall not win unless we all take an interest in the new scheme," and fight hard for. Fit.
