KAMUNING RUBBER.

The ninth annual general meeting of the Kamuning (Perak) Rubber and The Company, Ltd. was held ou December 20 in London. G. F.

The Chairman saiti: ̧ With refer- ience to the profit and loss account, you will see that the year's proft shows a market decrease on that of the previous year. The decrease is due to three causes-namely, reduced output, increased cost of production and the lower price obtained for our rubber. With regard to the first, Our crop weighed out at 778,48 lbs. under the terms of the restriction of joutput scheme. The original metİradë. was placed at 935,000 lbs. As you were informed at the last general meeting, it had been decided to effect R change in the tapping system from two, cuts to the more conservative sone cut on a quarter of the tree, with a view to securing an eight years bark renewal., in any case, the operation would have had the effect of causing a certain falling off of crop during the year. It was therefore considered opportune to make the charge during the period of restricted output, and this has been done. It is confidently expected that it will prove most "beneficial in the l -direction of improved bark renewal and cheaper cost of production, with little, if any, loss of crop in the futute. The reduced crop naturally enhanced the cost of production;! while all materials used in estate

After debiting the amount of £3,115 68, being income tax short recovered in respect of the year 1916-17, the total proft for the year amounted to £27,683 11s. 10d., which is increased to £28,809 3s. 28! by the addition of the carry forward from the previous year. The position of the rubber market is still some- what obscure. There was, and still is considerable difficulty in realising produce, and although for the year under review our liability for excess profits duty will be little, if any, there still retains outstanding a claim by the authorities for some £14,000 in respect of previous periods, part of which is in dispute. Having due regard, therefore, to the situation at the mo ment, your directors do not feel justi fied in recommending the distribution! of a larger dividend than 6 per cent., being satisfied that the conservative policy of keeping in reserve an ad- equate working capital is in, the best! interests of the company.
