The Indian Government is encour Inging the construction of woeden vessels in place of steel vessels. (1) The vessels built in India after July 1, 1918, in case of heing forced into Government service, shall ceive a spécial consideration as to their charterages (2) Wooden buily": ing materials shall be supplied to ing tending builders at cheap prices by the Forestry Department, the prices: to be paid on easy terms; (3) The authorities will be willing to help shipbuilders to overcome any diff culty in getting building accessories, ete, () The authorities will give precedence to the import of ship- building machinery: (5) Louns shall be advanced on the security of ves sels to be built by any shipping finu in India.
TRIAL TRIP OF THE STR. CHING- CHONG.
The trial trip of the, Tall, Yil Steanship. Company's str. Ching. Chong, under the captaincy of Mr. J., R. Hudson, F.R.G.S., took place on February 12, and proved to the " satisfaction of all concerned, Angarst those on board were:- Jir.
