It may have been so. The main thing is that everybody, who like's good pianoforte music agrees. that. Skiarevski played good stuff re- markably well, which anybody can understand. Why these musical critics can't talk English is a my stery: Just listen to this. "The wonderful, range of pianistic colour and dynamics, the unusual subtle and, supple elasticity of phrase and nuance. But we forbear."

Thé 'cellist was equally popular. Sykera can make that instrument talk. It throbs emotion. Its rich chords vibrate in the inwards of the hearer, and make him (or her) feel" the message of the music. His own composition was well liked. Com- petent opinion is that these two are performers of very high rank. Cotumas of verbiage could not say

of Lincoln's Inna One 'outstanding impression of all the delegates was their youthfulness. When inter viewed on board by a representative. of the "China Mail" as to what the position of the delegation would be in the eyes of the Great Powers, D. Wu said they were going as the representatives of the Southern Gov- ctment and not as representatives rent by Feking. He himself had, so he stated, been invited by the Peking Government to join the delegates sent to the Conference by Peking, So far he had not accepted and felt he could not without con- sulting his colleagues. He boped to decide when he got to France. The situation in China at present presented too" many difficul. ties for his acceptance. When asked as to what his real object was in going to the Conference he said. "We are sent by the Canton Parliament to represent the people of the whole country of China. We are going to try to secure more equality for the subjects of China. The inequality which for many years has existed, we are seeking to have removed." The question of the North and South Dr. Wu said they would not raise as that would be discussed at the Feace Conference to be held in Shanghai. There were many things how ever, which China wanted to

Know These, Dr. Wu said, they would ask. Though he would not admit it when it was suggested to him, Dr. Wü seemed to realise the difficulty of the delegations position Finasmuch as the only status, they had' was that they were sent by the Gruw 1 thing Government, Walter is recognised by the Allied nations, the Canton Parliament has no status.

Their youthfulness and inexper. ience in matters of world politics promise some disappointment for this delegation.

In the second half a drawn game looked possible but a hot attack by the 83rd Co., ten minutes from time ended 'in a goal, Garner shooting in and Green getting the ball when the goalkeeper pushed it out. The death of Luis Alvarez Calderon, former Peruvian Consul in Hongkong, which occurred in San Francisco on December 20, is believed to have been due to murder instead of suicide, as previously reported.

Developments in, the investigation as to the cause of his death, insti tuted by the Peruvian Government, reveal that on the night of December 20 he was: accompanied to his room in an apartment house by a woman. The driver of a taxi-cab who drove them home on the night in question SOLE AGENTS asserts that on the way Calderon and the woman quarrelled violently. The following morning Calderon's body was discovered lifeless in his room, with a revolver near his right Hand, while the bullet was found to have entered the body from the left side.
