ST. STEPHEN'S GIRLS' - COLLEGE.

SPEECH DAY.

This took place at a late hour this afternoon. Our report of the speeches will appear tomorrow. Following, was the Principal's report.

We regres that for the past twe years wa bave not been in a position to invite you to any of our school funct jons, but today, due to the kindness. of the Warden of St. Stephen College, wy found this beautiful ball at our lieposal

I know the school would with me to thank you very much, Mr. Hewitt, for enabling them to invite their friends to meet them bere this altemocn, on this, the occasion of their Ant Speech Day.

The past two years have been rather strenuous ones for as, with a depleted English staff, a shaken building, and a removal to a caw neighbourhood, to contomi with. It has been a two years if up-bill climb, but we trust that through it we are being led up on to higher lovela.

As regards the work of the school, we on the staff have been giving our best thought towards the development of greater initiative in the scholars. The time has come now for them to do more fad.pendent thinking and not to rely so wholly on their teachers as in the The founding of our school Y.31.CA. has been a real help in this direction and has raised the members to A higher level of responsibility.
