BIG STEEL SHIPS FOR VLADIVOSTOCK.

Seattle. Niv. 20.-That a number di big steel steamships will soon be mexiga. od by the United States Shipping Board to help handle the gigantic now Russian trade now developing between Seatils and Vladivosek, was definitely ascer tothed this morning. The vessels, it' is said, will range from 7,500 to more than 9,000 deadweight tons and will include" several jew steamships now under con struction in Northwess yards.

The 3,900.tou afee! steamship Cadarét ta, "which began leading in Seattle for Vladivostock late yesterday afternoon, baking aboard the Arst cargo of the new movement, will depart for the Siberiant port in two on these days. The Cadaretia inaugurates the vast new movement, but much larger carriers are to follow her.. She is a small vesset för operation-in-the- Vladivostock route, but it is understood that the Government at. Washington, D.C., dermed is unwise to wait until a large vessel became available.

Arrival of an Americaa cargo of lecomo- tives, Hat cars and other railroad equip- ment on the Cadaretta will have an effect on public opinion in Siberia and European Bussin that cannot be esti mated, according to the Government"; viewpoint. It will help convince the Russians of America's friendly interest- in the rehabilitation of their country and the opening up of Siberis. That the Government has seized the psychological moment for inaugurating the Russian movement is admitted in shipping circles. This, it is said, explains why the Ship- ping Beard did not wait until a larger estrier was available.

!)

Large ships, however, will soon be ready to operate in the rey trade. The Shipping Board planned until a few days go to send the steamship Venezuela, of the Pucite Mail Steumship Company, and the Sunta Cruz, of W. R. Grace and Co., to Seattle to,load for Vladivostock, Both carriers having been requisitioned for that purpose." According to word received from San Francisco this morning, How- aver, neither of these ships will be sent here to lofd for Siberia: but the Görem ment will assign several of the largo few steel steamship to the Seattle route.

The Cadareita, which was asärgited to the Robert Dollar Company for opera tion between Seattle and Vindivostock, fis‘anking rapid press loading cargo at the Union Pacific terminal on Elliot Bay. Hice-cured consists of shipments provided by the Passian Mision on Ways and Communication.

SHIPBUILDING PRICES.

According to telegram sent by a branch once of a Japazese company at London, the shipbuilding yards under the control of the British Government-days ansourced tha: zewly-buils beamers of 8,000 az 8,000, tous class will be offered for sale at the rate of 3 or £30 per ton d..

The Japanese branch made en inquiry. as to the feasibility of the cliange of the ship's registry after the purchase of some of the steamers to be sold by the British yards, but has been informed to the effect that such procedure will be possible only on the lapse" of three years after the cuticlotion, of peace. The ex port of British tonnage has been placed under the ban by the British: Govern- ment, and the present sales offers have nothing to do with any intending foreign buyer."
