BUNSHINE MAGIC,

How the colour of flowers can be chang- ed merely by regulating the amount of sunlight they receive was shown by Colonel H. E. Rawson in a lecture at the Royal Colonial Institute.

BLISTERS BY HYPNOTIC BUGGESTION.

That blisters can actually be produced on the skin by means of hypnotic sug- gestion. «lone is the claim nada by Dị. J. Arthar Hadfield, temporary, surgeon, RN,, describing some recent experiments in the London Lunert

sesman

Getting the consent of patient at the Royal Naval Hospital, Chatham, to try the experiment, Dr. fistfield hypnotized the man and then suggested to him that his arm was being touched with 'red-hot iron and that a blister would form on the spot. The arm was then covered with a bandage pinned on with a safety-pin, and the pin was sealed with sealing wàx to muke certain that the arm could not be interfered with in any way. The patient was watched continuously by nurses till next morning, when, in the presecca of three surgeons, the seal was broken and the bandage removed, showing a small blister on the chosen spot. This gradually developed during the day to form a large hleb, with an ares of inflammation around.

two other experiments the skin was actually touched with a red-hot iron. In the first instance the aurgeon sag; gested that there would be no pain and in the second that there would be the usual pain of a brister. The first blinter was perfectly painless, bad practically Within two years, be said, a clump of no area of indamnation around it. and dahlias had besa transformed into a new healed very rapidly. The second blister prple variety, and they were now grow. was painful from the first, was surround- ing freely in his Hertfordshire garden,ed by reddened area and took longer With the change of colour marked to heal. changes bad occurred in the foliage. The scent also changed with the colour.

Experiments on neaturtiumą produced raaltiform flowers, splashed with nuauve, brown and green, on the same plant, Twelve poopy plants were screened, and eleven becane doable. The double form resembled a pink and white carnation," and one plant had three tiers of woven flowers each, one above the other.
