A well attended and representative meeting of the Portuguese Com- munity of Hongkong was held yesterday at the Lusitanic Club. Mr. E.. V. M. R. de Sousa' (the Consul for Portugal) presided, and amongst the large number present werp Captain Torre do Valle (Aide de Camp to His Excellency the Governor of Macau) and MeserA. AF. B. Silva-Netto (President of the Lusitano Club), P. V. Botelho (President of the Club de Recreio), Leo d'Almada e Castro (President of the Associacao Portuguesa de Soccorros Mutuos), J. D. Osmund (President of the Catholic Union), A. G. da Rocha (President of the Lusitano Recreation Club), A. M. L.; Soares, B. J, Botelho, J. M. Xavier, A. G. Botelho, H. Castro and Prof. Emil Danenberg, etc., etc.
The Chairman explained that the meeting had been convened for the purpose of showing the Community's sympathy with the families and relatives of the victime of the Happy Valley disaster, and also to show their appreciation of the many tokens of sympathy they had received from the Goverments of Hongkong and Macdo and various other official quarters, He then pro ceeded to read the letters and tele- grams of condolence received, and proposed the following resolutions which were seconded by Mr. Silva Netto and carried unanimously. viz.
1. That this meeting expresses, its
sorrowful, condolence to the families! and relatives of those members of the Portuguesa Community who lost their lives in the frighflict disaster which occurred on the 26th February last of the Happy Valley.
