THE LOST CONVOY.
DETAILS OF THE ATTACK.
LONDON, Dec. 17. The convoy was bound from Scotland
to Norway and consisted of one British and five neutral merchant ships, pro- sected by an anti-submarine escort. The destroyers Partridge, Pelew, four armed trawlers, and the 'convoy were attacked the 12th instant. For some reason, not yet explained, the force sent by Admiral Beatty to protect the convoy against attacks by surfare vessels did not arrive in time to prevent the destruction of the convoy.
The second conroy which was sho being covered, was not attacked.
The whole of the circumstances were being enquired into by Admiral Sturdee, Vice-Admiral De Kobeck and Rear Admiral Goodenough.

The circumstances of the attack,
secording to information at present available, were as follows:-The Partridge sighted four enemy destroyers at 11.15
on the 19th inst. Shortly after wards the flew and Partridge engaged the enemy, while the cut voy scattered in motordance with orders. Soon the Aurtenge was heavily hit, after which an explosion occurred on board and she sank. The Palew, meanwhile, was holed on the water line and her engines were partly disabled. She was eventually brought safely to England. The enemy then apparently attacked and sank the envoy and the trawlers.. Eighty-eight Scandinavians, including two women sal ten British survivors, were resoned by four destroyers, which were detached at full speed from the cruiser squadron. The other survivors reached Norway in

EARL GREY'S NEPHEW CAPTURED.
AMSTERDAM, Dec. 17. A telegram from Kiel states that Lieutenant Grey, nephew of Viscount Grey, the ex-Foreign Secretary, is get the prisoners who have been landed from the attacked convoy.
