EX-KICKSTART OF THE MARINY ENGINEERS GUILD CILIKGET,

Mr. Talloch, Second engineer of an. Lachow, charged Ivor Thomas Jones, late Secretary of the Marine Engineers', Guild at Hongkong, with that" be. having been entrusted with the sum of $100 on the 27th March last, did fraalulently convert same to his own use, and also that on the date between 31st July and 1st August, being again.. entrusted with the sum of 250. did convert same to bis use.

Defendant pleaded not guilty. Complainant, giving övûlancé, said Some time ago in arch a man Damed: Anderson stole $190 from me. I pro- scented him in this court and had him convicted. After the conviction the money remained in the hands of the Police 1 tok Inspector Gordon who has the money to give it to Mesdames wher was then the Secretary of the Marine Engineers' Quiki, to hold it for mentit i rezarnet from my voyage. ibis was on the 27th of March but. dal but speak to defendant about the mort early in August. Last trip, some time in September, 1 weat to his uthee to look for him. He waa not it. I left a chit in which I aaked him to send the pass book to me on the ship. The book was not sent. Last Tuesday, the d instant. I again. alled at his office expecting to find him there, but found instead Me. 3. Findlay Beid who was acting in bis phec. Yesterday I made enquiries at the Bank and was informed that the monies had naver bern aid. 1 reported the marter to the Police,"

Inspector lordon then gave evidence that he pa the defendant $150 on the 27th Marcb last. Fifty dollars of the money belonged to the defondant and the $100 was the property of Mr. Tulloch. He paid the $100 to Mr Joues, the defendant, ander Mr. Tulloch - intenctions, and expressly 13 him to return that sum to Mr. Tulloch on the latter's return from his trip. He did not know until he met M Tulloch yesterday, that the money had to been returned.

It is usual for the Secretary of the Chill to receive money from the members of the Guild to put into their account at the bank, and I think it is very irregular for the Secretary to put money entrusted, to him by the members into his own personal se count.
