A DISHONEST ASSİSTANT.
Mr. K. Sayce, proprietor of a tobacco and stationery shop at No. 14 Bancon- feld's Arcade, appeared before Mr. Malbourne this morning to prosecute His Chinese assistant, who pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing a number of pipes, shiving brushes, writing tablatu and post cards of a total value of $55. from the complainant's shop.
Detectiva Sergeant Clark informed the magistrate that the defendant, who bad been given full charge of the shop luring the complainant's absence, had taken advantage of his employer's con fidence and stolen the articles from the stock. Since the defendant's arrest the complainant had taken an inventory of his stock and discovered that, mar chandise to the value of more than
