AN IMPRESSIVE SERVICE

The state funeral rites of the late Prince Oyama were performed at the Hibiya Park on the 17th December.

At 8.30 am, after the ritual service for leaving the residence, the remains of the late Field Marshal Prince Oyama, the Lord Keeper of the Privy Seal, were placed on a gun carriage. At 7.30 am. after the military band had played the funeral March of the deepest sorrow the Guard of Honour under the command of General Kuroki, left the residence of the late Prince'st Onden in Aoyama Tokio. The funeral procession extended several thousand yarda Field-Marshal Kawamura and Generals and Admirals aswali se Licutenant Oyama, the heir to the Frince, followed the remains. After them the favourite horse of the late Prince, Kuni-ne-Sachi, s horse given by the Emperor, was led, giving specially s sad spectacle...

The troops lining the route presented arms and the crowds of people showed their sorrow. The funeral salute.of ninstean guns was fired, echoing and sounds in the fine cold air.

After the remains reached the place

of ritual service at the Hibiya Park, the chief afficiating Shinto priest Songe read the funeral ritual address and trox the Deputy Chint, officiating Shinto priest read the mourning additae uf the, Emperor.

Then the Imperial. Messenger paid respect and then the Empress, the Crown Prince, all the Imperial princes, Field Marshals and Admirals "of the Fleet, the Premier and others paid respect.

The funeral rites of the state funeral then concluded.

The repairs left the Hibiya Park on the gun carriage at 11.30 am and from the railway station at Uyano in Tokio the retains left on a train at 8 p.a. for the greve at Nishi Nosuno.
