FEAR OF REPRISALA BRINGING BETTER TREATMENT,

On arrival at the little old town of Soltau we were met by a military automobile and driven out on road made by the prisoners to the largest collection of hats I have ever seen.

There is nothing wrong that I could datect in the camp at Soltan, and I should say that the 200 English pri soners there are as well treated as any in Germany. The camp Commandant seems to be a good, fellow. His task of i ruling an great an assemblage of man

large and difficult one, rendered the easier by the good spirit engendered by his tact and kindness.

A series of articles has been written for the Time by Me Thomas D. Curtin, an american, who has spent ten monthe in Germany. In his seventh articla Mr Curtin deals further with the treatment of prisoners in Germany, and

Getting at the facts in Germany is almost a dificulta tak as conveying facts out of Germany when you Eboso have got them.

Since the Germans began to find the war going against them since, in partie enlar, the English and French made large captares of Prussian Guards and other corps d'elita soldiery, a number of really excellent camps have been ar ranged to which mentral visitors are taken..

of their almost two million captives,

The world does not need reminders sach as that of Wittenberg or of so singularly accurate narratives as several in Blackwood's Magazine to know what has happened to English prisoners in Germany.

It is commen knowledge throughout the German Empire that the most loath some tasks of the war in connexion with every camp or cage are given to the English. Conversations that I have had here in London about your prisoners giva me the impression that the British public does not exactly apprehend what prisoner stands for in German ayes.,

THE REHLIN CARD INDEL First, he is a hostage. If he be an oficer his exact social value is estimated by the authorities in Berlin, who bare a complete card index of all their officer prisoners, showing to what British
