TRIBUTES TO YERDUN,

CITY RECEIVES DECORATIONS,

There was an interneting ceremony at Verdus on the 13th ult., when President Poincaré presented to the city the decora. tions which have been awarded to Ver dan by the heads of the Allied States.

The ceremony, which was very simple, was held in the casemates of the citadel of Verdau. There were present: Gea- erul Jude, General Putain, General Nirulle and General Dubois, the Prefact of the Department of the Meuse and the Sub-Frefect of Verdun, the mayor of the vity, the Senators and Deputies of the Departinent of the Meuse and the beads of the Military Mission of the Allied nations.

President Poincaré in an admirable speech gave the history of the attack upon Verdun sad described the ačvan- tages of its defence for the Allies. He foretold the renascerico of Verdun frem ith ashes and said that in centuries to come on all points of the globe the zarao of Verdun will continue to resound as a shout pf victory and a ery of joy uttered by liberated humanity.
