JAPAN'S CONGRATULATIONS,

The Secretary of the British Admiralty announced last month that the following telegram has been received from the

Minister of Marine, Tokyo:--:-

I have learned with deep feelings et gratification of the recent brilliant snd stubborn-fought caval battle with the enemy and of the splendid results achieved. On behalf of the Imperial Navy I most heartily congratulate our British comrades on this sigral success. on the valour and bravery displayed, on having the entire command of the sous with their mighty power without any Shange, and that the enemy was forced after great losses into his own ports and his plans frustrated. The laurels of vic tory will more than ever reet with the Allies after this successful battle."

The loss of valuable and brave off. cers and men is deeply regretted, and so their widows and relatives the profound condolence and sympathy of the Imperial Navy goes out.

The kind expression of sympathy of the British Admiralty at the death of Lieutenant-Commander Shimomurá is deeply appreciated, and has been còn veyed to his widow.
