THRILLING STORY OF COURAGE AND HARDIHOOD.
:
LONDON, Oct. 10,
$0.20 a.m.
A thrilling story of superb courge and hardihood is contained in an Admiralty statement of the adventures of Lieutenant D. Hughes, submarine officer in the sea of Marmora. He went ahora at night time, partly swam and partly, by raft, climbed semi-precipitous cliffs. and endlesronring to blow up the milway.
He reached the line, but in a half-hour was perceived by the Turks guarding the viaduct. He made a detour, having hidden the dynamite and weapons, to see if the other side of the viaduct was unguarded. Finding this fruitless he consequently searched for a spot where he could (Full Particulars from Catalogue.}

HEAVY FIGHTING NEAR LOOS
LONDON, Oct 10, 10.50 am,
It is effcially reported in Paris that the German loses in their attack on Loon were very heavy,
The assault was delivered in three soccessive waves followed in column formation. All were mowed down by the combined fire of the infantry, conchine guns and artillery. Only a few elements gained a footing, one being a recently conquered trench between Loos and the Lensbethura Road.
Other viclent and repeated attacks south-east of Neuville St. Yaust were likewise repulsed
Our recent. progress, everywhere has been maintained.
Our artillery hos nipped in the bud with curtain fire a German Dight counter-attack east of the Navarin farm. The enemy's only reply to our progress south-east of Tanum has been a violent bombardment with asphyxiating shells.
