EXCESSIVE DRINKING AMONG WORKMEN.

LONDON, March 30, The Rt. Hon. Mr. Lloyd vorge received a deputation of the Shipbuild- ing Employers Federation who, after mentioning that noon of them were teetotallers, arged the total closing of publia.houses and clubs in the areas where munitions are produced. They declared that excessive drinking was seriously interfering with the cutput of munitions.

Mr. Lloyd George said he had had an audiance of the King that morn- ing His Majesty was deeply concerned about the question. Mr. Lloyd Onorge said he was convinced that the country was beginning, to realise the gravity of the position arising from drink facilities, and that the 'feeling was growing that only ront-and-brauch methods would be of the slightest avail The success of the war was now purely question of munitions. This was the conviction of Lord Kitchener as well as of Sir John French. The repre- sentations ct the deputation would carry great weight with the Cabinet in making a final decision on the matter,

TERRIBLE SCENES.

Another account of the aẞair says that the commander of the sub- marine said he would give the crew ten minutes to launch the boats. but before they could he lowered a torpedo struck a vital spot. Terrible scenes ensued. Some of the boats avere sumshed and others were swamped. The Falaba sunk rapidly, and people were thrown into the sun. This account confirms that the Germans haughed at the drowning Britons.

The skipper of the trawler had previously sighted the submarine, and its fortuitous presence enabled it to start the rescue promptly. Tho | survivors suffered greatly from the cold.

The Fabala went at full speed, and the chase lasted for hall an hour. The latest list gives the number saved us 145. ·

CONFIRMATION BY PRESS BUREAU.

The Official Press Bureau confirms the sinking of the Falubu. She foundered in ten minutes. Of the passengers Raul crew, totalling about 250, about 140 have been saved. It is fenred that many were killed by the explosion of the torpedo.

ANOTHER BRITISH STEAMER TORPEDOED.

LONDON. Mar. 30: A submarine sank the Liverpool steamer Aguila of Pembrokeshire. Twenty of the crew were landed at Fishguard, and about a score were drowned.

The Press Bureau confirms the torpedoing suvi winking of the steamer Aguila, and adds that three pessengers and 28 of the crew are missing. The Captain and nineteen of the crew, were saved.
