LONDON, Nov. 25.7.5 p.m.

A Paris communiquo states that intermittent artillery engagements have taken place in Belgium. We made progress in the neighbourhood of Vermelles. eiting part of the village of Daiselle, north-east of Albert, and also in the Libens district. GERMAN REGIMENT ALMOST COMPLETELY ANNIHILATED.

LONDON, Dec. 24, 10.40 p.m. A Petrograd communique says. We completely routed yesterday night considerable German forces which had crossed to the right bank of the Ezura. river. One German regiment was almost completely anaibilated and left be bind 520 prisoners the same right the enemy made violent attacks in the Bolimoff District, but they were everywhere repulsed. The most obstinate fighting continued on the banks of the Pilica, and we drove back the Germans appearing on the right bank of the tirer. THEIR MAJESTIES IMAS WISHES TO THE FORCES.

LONDON, Dec. 24. Every saldiet in the trenches, and every sailor in the North Sea, along with those who are wounded in the hospitals, will receive to morrow a personal greet- ing from the King and Queen on cards bearing their Majesties portraits and Christmas wishes in facsimile writing. The King has made a special sitting in khaki uniform for the soldiers, and in the uniform of an Admiral of the Fleet for the Navy. The eard for both the soldiers and sailors, is inscribed as follows:-" May God protect you and bring you bomo safe."

The card for the wounded is inscribed as follows:-May you soon be re- stored to health.”

The cards are enclosed in a special envelope bearing the Royal Arms in a setting of crimson.

One hundred and eighty packing cases were needed for the conveyance of

the cards.

A Paris official telegram states that the Austrian cruiser launched two torpedoes at a French battleship in the Straits of Otranto. One hit but caused little damage and no casualties..

THE RUSSIANS MAKING HEADWAY.

LONDON, Dec. 24.

A Petrograd official statement saya that the operations on the 22nd inst. were generally favourable to the Remian Arma on all fronts, especially on rivers Nida and Dunjetz in the Carpathians.
