I appears not to be the case that Ypays has ever been in the hands of the Germans since the battle around this sleepy old Finish town began thirty- three days 72

Advanced trenches in the neighbour- hol were rushed on Wednesday by the Prestian churd, but, as have happenst before, the Germans paid frightfal price for their kids, for the evictest troops and the reserves closed in on them furiasly, and after a terrible struggle drave the west back to their ins sivattered beyond reógnition. -

DEADLY SHOOTING.

It must be bentemberol that this grim work of our troops was dried out after they had been bombarded fiercely for several hour when, by all the scientific principles of warfare wa tanght in the German staff colleges they-or what was lb of them-shockt have been demoralised to the point of surrcidet. Emtis, their shouting was as deadly as ever, and their vigair in the ruthless enter-attack beyond praise.

A Belgian staff vfier, full of enthu sebi, said to må vesturilaya “ It de had had a hundred thousand of these men with us at Liege, I believe we might stili by hulling our frontier on thut side."

How long will the Kaiser persist in sacrificing his army in order to reach the Channel? The theory now "current in | high quarters hero is that the fint the German gunxes un hope for on the Eastern front in the immediate future is to atom the Itessing advance.
