NEW YORK, June 5. Five young performing lions, born unil raised in captivity, yesterday turned on their trainer in the Suntu Fe Railway Freight Yards, near Chi- cago, and, after killing him. partly devoured the corpse before help arrived.

Last night Licorge McCord, an ex- perienced triner, who was in charge of the lions, left the animals for few minutes, and on returning found the cubs engaged in a fierer fight. McCord pparently sistuted to enter the cage, and Diezrich, arriv ing at that moment, volunteered to! separate the animals.

Dietrich luroically defended himself as best be could, but, weakened by loss of blood, finally succumbed.

Meanwhile McCord had been help ing by prodding the lions with a fork from outside the cuge, but his efforts availed little, and Enally he ran for help.

Many minutes passed before be Teturned with reinforcements, only to find Dietrich quite dead and five lions savagely tearing his belly to) pieces. The lions were only driven from their proy by the sprinkling of formaldehyde acid on the body.

When the remains were fianily recovered it was found that the body had been half dovoured.

Miss Castillor when informed of her lover's death, fainted, but re vived shortly afterwards.
