The Board of the British. South Africa Company has found it necesary to part pose the Ancual General Meeting of the Company, which, as indicated in its com unication to the Press of the 28th February last, it was intended to hell during the present month.

the Charter, is entitled to review, on the HONGKONG, CANTON, MACAO

of the Charter as relate to administrative- and public matters. His Majesty's Govern- ment hare sho thought it desirable, with the cotcurrence of the Board, to refer to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council for final determination certain questions which have been raised as regards the Company's ownership of its band.

At a moment when both these questioas. are sud-judies and the Directors have received from His Majesty's Government zo information as to their views or inten tions, it la obvious that it would be highly inexpedient to invite public discussion of them, such as most necessarily take place At General Meeting of Shareholders.

It is hoped that a settlement thay be

krrived at within the next few months

and that we may be able to meet the share bolders early in November

The confidence of the Board in the great value of the Company's assets and under- takings, and in the opportunities that present themselves for the prosection of ne energetic programme of profitable develop ment, hack boen strengthened during the period that bas elupard "rince the last General Moating. Developments already pitinted are being actively carried on and expanded it has not been thought- necessary to retard them in any way pening the settlement of the questions to which I have referred above.
