An important scheme, by which it is! proposed that Somerset House"shak be- come the central buiding of the Univer- alty of London, was brought before the Education Committee of the Lundeni County Council at one of their weekly meeting recently and received the almost unanimous approval of that body, twenty- four numbers voting in favor the project and only three against it..

It was reported that at a conference recently held between a sub-committee of the Education Cammittee and the Bites and Accommodation Committee of the University Seunte, six alternative sites for the proposed new University buildings had been considered, viz.;

1. The print Imperial Institute site. 2. The site adjoining the British Masoudi.

3. The Foundling Hospital site.

4. The river. site adjoining the new County Hall.

5. Amater site, on the South bank

of the Thames.

6. Somerset House.

A pracialistams suggestion, the report stated that, several members of the Sites and Accommodation Committee, while not committing the Senate. up. peared to be ed opinion that, if it were "practicable for the university to obtain possession of the whole of Somerset House (which has an area of between five and six hers, exclusive of King's College), the solution would be generally regarded a entisfactory; and no opinion adverse to this suggestion was expreased,
