QUESTION OF AMOUNT.

Much has been said about the President's salary, but its exact sum has but yet been decided upon. A wook ago, the Ministry of Finance wrote a letter to the Cabinet Ofice requesting that the President's salary be fixed. The Cabinet referred this matter to the Bureau of Legisla tion. Sze Yu, the Chief of the Bureau that of Legislation, in of opinion there is no need to fix the President's salary by law, Ays the "P.D.N." He wrote a reply to the Premier's letter. which was sent to the Cabinet Office y terday, in which he states that in examin ing the precedents of the foreign Repub lican countries, nene of these countries set down the sum of the Presidente salary in the form of a law. And there is good reason for it. He says that the President's salary should be fixed af er considering the Asancial circumstances of the country. H recommends that both the Presidente salary and the allowance for expenses be regulated at Cabinet meeting. e sg- gests that the salary for China President may be £xed at about the same figure as that of the President of France.
