A cheque was dishonoured owing to the error of the clerk, and Mr. Copping lost about £40,000 in one day in cousequence of the shaken credit of the firm. The clerk was dismissed, but this, of course, did, not restore the erodit of the firm, whose business dwindled away to nothing.

Mr. Copping's father died of a broken. heart, and when Mr. Copping's wife diod he was left destitute."
