MORTALITY FIGURES FOR THE YEAR 1912.

A month ago, ays The Statesman, we directed the attention of big game hunters to the scope offered to their energies by. the Central Prosincos country in which forty human beings were killed by tigers in 1912, and eight were devoured by one leopard acne. From a resolution which has just been issued by the United Pro- vinces Government, it would appear that a still more promising feld awaits the **shari" in the region ruled over by Sir James Mestoo

The number of persons killed by tigers in 1919 in the Kumanm division alone was 67, or more than double the mortality recorded from this source in the previous year. Forty-one people in the Naini Tai district fell victime to two man-eaters, for whess destruction a special reward of Rs. 500 wich was sanctioned: "Ope of the brutes has boun destroyed, but the other remains at hrge. Twenty poople were killed by tigers in the Almora district, where another man-eater existed, whose prowess induced the authorities to offer s special reward of Rs. 500 for his carcass, This tizezi reparted.to.bava.bean killed, but no claimant bas come forward for the reward.
