We have received from "Lloyd's 'Bur- zey in Hongkong a copy of Lloyd'ʼn masinal summary of Shipbuilding at Homo and Abroad, for 1913. The publication, which gives a vory complete and full analysis of the world's ship construction dharing the year under review, statos that during 1912, exclusivo of warabipa, 713 Yousein of 1,788,514 tona gromm. (vis.,. 643. steamers of 1,720,037 tane and 80 sailing vonnels et 17,587 tons), were larmobed in the United Kingdom. The sailing ship tonnage was composed, however, almost entirely of barges and simila:'araft. The wurkhips launched at bosh Government and private yards amounted to thirty of 01,737 as displacement. The botal output of the United Kingdom for the year had therefore, bean 742 vonsola" of 1,980,251.

The outpet of mercantile tonnage in the United Kingdom during 1917 shows a Joerenso of 65,330 tons on that of last your. As regards waz rosacis the total is 30,040 tons loss than in 1911.

(649,368 steam, 54,745 sa94, On the other hand 0.144 tons (5,108 steam, 18 sail) were built abroad fur United Kingdom owners, and purchases from foreign mul colonial owners during the same period amounted to 87,877 tons 136,482 steam, 1,415 sail). That steam yanage of the United Kingdom would to appear to have increased by about 420,000 tons, and the sailing tɔnuage to have decreased by ahoat 65,000 tons. The net increase of United Kingdom ten- ange at the and of 1912 was therefore about 955,000 tons.
