THE LORDS' AMENDMENTS.
LONDON, Feb. 19. The House of Lords are re-discussing the Scottish Temperance Eill, as re- turned from the House of Common with the Lorde' amendments struck out. Several Pears, including Lord Courtenay, vigorously animadverted on the manner in which the House of Commons had dealt with the amend- ments. Ultimately the Lorda repassed the Clause with reference to the time limit, but agreed to confine the so- called disinterested management to public-hor a bar business only.

It is interesting to note that the battle Paardeburg was fought on February 13th, 1900. The D.C.L.I. formed part of a brigade consisting of the Shropshires, Gordonx, and Canadiasi regiment. The first battle fought by the brigade was at Paardeburg, in which the famous charge of the Cornwalls took place in the afternoon. The battalion on that day fost 3 killed and wounded, the Cold und Adjutant both being killed. The last Paardeburg day celebrated by the batte lion was at Bloemfontein in 1910, when at the same time new colours were pro-

The Rev. C. B. Hickling, one of the directors, presided at the annual meeting of the European Young Men's Christian Association, held in the Association rooms sented to last evening.
