CARIYULLY GUARDED LEAD. From the moment, they were landed in Trieste their whoreabouts was a mystory; and it was even reported that they hadi been stolen. The Austrisa and German police took extraordinary precautions sguinst their being tampered with, and at the samO time made exhaustive Examinations sed inquiries. Finally the boxes were placed in the strong room of the Schwabe at Bremen, under the seals of the German police, for conveyance to Lendon. They will be received by Chief Inspector Collison, of the City Police.

A minute comparison is to be made intreen the returney cases of lead and. the bullion boxes sent out from the Bank England. There is now very little doubt that the thieves got away with two cases of gold and left the lead-filled ensus in their piace.

The cases themselves are made of teak and deal, bound with iron bands, nailed together with two-inch nails of a special pattern, and sealed with eight seals. It would be impossible to abstraat tas godd without in some way mutilating the case. In a recent robbery of £6,000 worth of bar gold sent from the Swiss Bank- varein in London by way of Bremen to their headquarters, in Borno, the authori- ties were, however, much puzzled by the fact that the boxes had apparently been successfully opened and the gold ab. stracted.

Of course, that's all in the day's' work, and more coming. Governor Wilson bas not as yet nalled the suffrage banner to any of his mate, and will hardly fool women to bi politial family. But if Mr. Roosevelt had bees elected, there. Would have been undeniable logic in these suggestions. He might not have amented 41 to them by appointing-ay-Mr Bel mont to be Secretary of War, but-when Brother Deba gabe. in he may actually do it. None of the reluctances based on long abanding habit of mind which might affect Theodore would carry any considerable weight with Eugene.

And very likely Mrs Belmont would make a pretty good Secretary of War. She is efficient and used to nikita, and varied in commanding men, and she would doubt low keep in, zowllent bonse and a good pook, and contribute effectively to the social side of any administration that anlisted her. We recommend, the sufra gister to make their demands morn defnile and particular and concentrate on the pro position of Mrs Belacak For Becratury it.
