In ecorection with the case of William Burke, a Philadelphia councillor who fled the city owing to being blackmailed by a crime, another quendam partner in remarkable confession of a former prison sentence served by a respected Philadelphia citizen was made recently in the offer of financial support to Burke by Mc J. L. Fahr, a rapimentative of the Chinese Mec- chants' Aciation.

Mr Fehr says he is willing to set Burke up in business and stand by him because be himself as helped to roform after be served a prison sentence for larceny caused by business troubles. Fehr declares that Burke's greatest sarut is his wife, and adds:-

"Afto Ierved my sentonce the first person to extend a band to me was my loving wifo, who forgave my errors. When I settled down there came into my life man when I did not know, and he offered me the chance to start in business again. I was so happy that I thought it was Betien, but when he gave me money I knew it was. no dream, but that there was someone willing to trust me. So I intend to help Burke."
