Amazing Statement From the Dook.
Aremarkable statementwila mada from the, dook at the Bow-street. Police Court recently by ex-Lieutenant Alan Sutor, in explaining why he broke a win- dow at the police station on the previous avazing. The police evidence was that he throw a piece of stone and broke a large pane of glass, valued at 29: 10%, He was quite sober, and said nothing. when charged,
and while I was acting in that capasity: I used to be in the Army," he said,
I formed certain convictions--religiou convictions. Those convictions have been the cause of my material, ruin. I have come down. fost people go up with their convictions. My convictions wara that man on a natural plane is a creatura. of circumstances; and, as a matter of ciastike fact, he is the creature of ei cumstances. But there is a moral plane. In my opinion man is made in the Image of his Creator. That was the conviction that came to me while I was in the Army, I made up my mind to serve my fellow-man and go on a straight course in the way of being honest and sincere. I am here, not as the result of my con- victions being wrong, but as the muit of having become morally conscious of my own dishonesty.
HIS LOST COMMISSION. "I lost my commission through bái coming conscious in this way, and left the Army with the intention of carrying out my purpose. I had a career opened for me in journalism. I took up a class of journalism which I thought would benefit the cause I had in hand. I had offers of help from many good men in this country, but I ignored them. My employer threw me over a six months. I had £100-a year. In six months, when he had had an advertisersent out of me be threw me over. That was nine months ago, and I have not got my full salary-
"I am prepared to assert that there is a different point of view in human nature hom the natural point of view. It bas cost me my commission and lost me my wife and family. I am not going to auk you and the public to give them back to me, because I would not have them if you did. The only course open to me, in order to be true to the purpose that
