The Natural History Museunt has pur- chased a remarkable collection of bird skins collected on Shaweisham, a rucky islet situated about 30 miles east of the mouth of the Yangiste-king. lat. 31 deg, 2 min. 22 we. N.. lng. 1 deg. 13 min. 50) sees. E. The history of this collection is as follows-Mr. La Louche, an experienced British ornithologist, Bud been studying the migration of birds on -the east coast of China for some years, and in 1910 he applied to the British Ornithologist Club, for financial assist ance to enable him to sui collectors to some of the islands of the post. The Club agreed to pay the expenses of ün expedition to Shaweishau in the spring of 1911, on condition that the birda col. lected should be the property of the Club. The collection arrived in January "last, and Mr. Hickett has examined the skina, and notes affixed to them, and pubilehed a brief report on them in the Bulletin of the Club: There were alto- gether 428 skins, representing 198 species. Tho Museum purchases 248, skins, and Mr. Rothschild the remainder, and the surplus realised over, the cost of the expedition is to be forwarded to Mr. La
