STORM HAYOO AT HOME.
Enrious Floods in North of Enfand.
July, throughout which auch varied weather has boon uxperienced this year, has slowed with floods of a terrific char- otor, states a home paper of August. 2. The north of England has suffered espeel- ally heavily, and many thousand pounds' worth of damage has been down in the Wast Riding of Yorkshire alone. Through Woxluesday night and well into yeater- day morning there was a continuous downpour, in many, places amounting to over one and a half inches, which is early half the total average for the pre ant month.
In the folds, in! many cases the eropa are under water and utterly ruined, bun- dreds of acres of land boing submerged at Wharfedale* and at Pudsey, where two mill dams burst. At Bradford, where-the the night, the Bradford berk, which runs rainfall had been more than 1.30iu, during

Bien when they at last got in work could ant be resumed for some hours. Large unatities of cloth and prepared materials in the basements, ut. these premises were smaged, and the warps in six hindred lems at Mesura, „Priestman's were spoil ed by dirty water. One of the principals of the Bin stated that the food had done more damage than the explosion in December, when great quantities of machinery were engulfed

The gravest fury are felt for the crops all over Yorkshire, and the Bishop of Ripon has requested that pray. rs for fine weather be said in all the churches in his diocese.
In Lanenshire also the position is seri- aus, many acres of growing crops being under water in the Fylde and West Lan- ashire districts. Collom Bank overflow-
at Ashton, and covered largo tructs of neadow land. At Hutton and Howick iso many acres of meadows have been bmerged, and the railway lines in the tow-lying parts of West Lancashire lnve been foodled. Work was stopped in everal departments of the Leyland Motor Works owing to the floors being under: water, which in guany houses, inills, and workshops is' severul feel deep.

The Durham Light Infantry, 600 of whom ure encump ad on Scarborough rute-course, have boop nourly washed out of camp, and they have been busily engaged in digging trenches round the tents to drain the water away. All battalion drill was stopped for the day, and the musketry course at Stren- sall had to be abandoned. The camp of he Territorials at Hunmanby also sul- fered, and the tents were saturated.
Severe thunderstorms, took place in many districts, and a house was wrecked at Kirkham, in Lancashire, and the storm was also experienced at Preston. A party Preston ladies who had been at an in- duction service at Hambleton had an unpleasant experience.
