A RICKSHA STRIKE.

We have had another strike at Hankow,

says the Hankow Daily News" of Aug. 30, but this time mote sericus than the Inat one. The ricksha colies are again not satisfied with their lot. Not a single rick- sha (except private) was to be seen in the ! streets of the Concussion yesterday after- noon and the few coolies plying for fares in the forenoon were soon compelled to top work by their commdrs. Some arrests have been made by the British Municipal police of coalies on strike "who attempted to stop "strike-breakers" from working,

The coolies are complaining that they have to pay too much for the hire of their rickshas, namely 80 to 40 cash per day and that the number of rickshas registered at the British Municipal Council, in all about

1500, is too great, rendering it impossible for a single rann to earn suficient for bis living. "It is certainly no wise policy of the ricksha eners to place too nary rickshas into traffic, but there is also the British Múnicipal Council to be blamed for allow. ing too many to be registered, u trent short-sighted policy which was, bound to lead to trouble. It is all very well that the income be increased but the first duty
