The death occurred on Aug. 2) of an- other old resident of Shanghai in the person of Mr Heinrich Oelkers, dockmaster : the Tungkados Dock. Mr Oelkers, who was very well known to the sea-faring I community, had passed practically thu laat thirty years in the pert, and as previous to tha be bad been engaged on ships trading to these waters, his connexion with the Far East dates bei a considerable tinta. He was a native of Hanover, Germany. and in his early youth he was apprenticed board the sailing vessels then so much in vogue and which tarned out so fine a class of summen, of which the deceased was e.
