To the Editor of the "CHINA MAIL.") Dear Sir-May we, through the metinn of your valuable paper, remove

ny fire which the recent action of the Sanitary Department, in the enforcer removal of the ceilings in our premises, may have aroused in the minds of our customers; and also deny the several ridicus rumours which, bave been spread in view of the Board's action in respect of this building.

In view of them rumours we are wuthorized by the head of the Sanitory | Department (whose officers, carried out and supervised the removal of the ceil ings) to say that their decision in having anch stilings remoni has been with a view to preventing, by the extermination. of rats, the building being infected; the iden being that a Restaurant or Ealing House is the most likely place in which
