Advices to hand from Manila report the safe arrival there of the two motar launches recently built by Messrs. W. S. Bailey and Co., Ltd., for the U.S. Government, a description of which has already appeared in these columns.

The boats are 70 feet in length having Speedway engines of 100 horse power. They are named No. 1 sud No. 2 re- spectively and designed for a contract speed of 8 kaots on, measured maile trial.

They left Hongkong at noen on 20th March under convey of the US. trans port Lisey reaching Marivales at 7 o'clock on the morning of Tuesday, the 23rd March.

Captain Barclay of the Liscum reports that on the preliminary trial of these boats around the island of Hongkong No. 2 boat ran at an average speed of about 10 knots an Hour, with her engines working smoothly and not a hitel of any kind during the three hours Tub. No. 1 boat lost the spark, being delayed about 15 minutes; but still made the run

in two hours and forty minutes with the

machinery working splendidly.
