The true mackerels, the tunnies and the sucking fish are closely allied. The first have a representative' here in Fa' Chỉ ù. Scomber scomlous. B.1.0. 11. 957. This is one of the very few cases, if not the only ono, where the name is applied to the same genue of "fish as at home. There are fire species of tuzules found in the "Box of Japan, but they appear not to outer tropical waters Richardson also mentions one epiecies of sucking fish (Echineis naucrater). Still in the herring group, we find the wigler fish, specimens of which, usually' small, -are-becnainally-picked up on the shore. The Chinese name is Chin na u. !!!(quivering flax-fish); the species is Lophius artiyerua. throats may seem strange to an ordinney observar, but he has oply to buy the bead of any fish mentioned below to prove that this is indeed the case. The long which bears the teeth is placed in a position contral, to each side of the throat, and the teeth are set in one, two or three rows. Fish possoming such teeth are found in British waters, the "rock-fish" being n exstaple. In these tropical sese however they are both more cumurousand of larger size: "many of them also artayed in very brilliant colours. The chief families are (1) the coral fishes (Pomacentridic), (4) the wrasses (Labridae), (3) the parrót-wrasses (Searida)- and (4) the Chromididas_fish found only in fresh water, and having a verp irregular local distribution.

The representative of the coral fishes in these waters is the hak u. (Pomacentrua nigricans), B.M.0. IV. 34 R. 2. This is said to be found not only on the. Chira coast, but also in the Sandwich Islands.
